A different chance meeting
Practice. Why did practice have to be so early? Joining the Fire Ferrets was a great idea and Korra was having fun; but waking up early was just not something she was looking forward to every morning. Today, it finally caught up to her and she was running late. "Thanks Pema!" Taking a very quick breakfast from what Pema had half-coked, Korra was out the temple in a blur and waterbending her way across the bay to the city. Even with her practice clothing and helmet, she managed it easily enough. The ferry would have taken too long.
After she made her way through the streets on foot, she didn't have time to try and work out the public transportation schedules, Korra was finally able to see the large golden building off in the distance. A boost of energy came from that and she lighted up as she locked her eyes on her destination and ran full tilt into the street. As usual, she ignored the honking and other loud sounds of the city. They would only distract her from her goal
"Almost there!"

Swallowing, Korra nodded. "Yeah, my hair doesn't stay straight unless it's brushed out." Her eyes nervously looked from the brush to Asami.
no subject
"Do you want to do anything in particular? Or just brush it out?" She gently pulled out Korra's pigtails, her fingers brushing against her cheeks. Asami was smiling subtly to herself.
no subject
After all, Asami was treating her.
Biting gently on both her lips, Korra tried to not fidget as Asami worked on her hair.
no subject
"And if we're ready early, I'm sure they'll be okay with seating us a little before our reservation." She gave Korra another quick smile in the mirror.

Eating earlier would have been a wise decision, which exactly why her stomach growled and her mouth almost disappeared when she pursed her lips. Wise decisions weren’t Korra’s specialty.
Now if only her hair could hide her face.
no subject
"You must be hungry, you worked out pretty hard today." Small talk while fixing her hair? Definitely. Even when she hit a snarl, Asami tried to remain gentle with the brush. She was nearly done.
no subject
"Do- I have to wear heels?" All she had on was the dress and her boots had been all she really used aside from her pro-bending gear. She gave Asami an uncertain look in the mirror. The image of her constantly falling on her face wouldn't leave her mind.
no subject
Perfect.

When Asami was done, Korra stood up and felt the need flatten out the front of her dress. She's used to her shirt being like a second skin, but the dress felt more unnatural and wiggle slightly as she straightened it.
The blue flats were easy to pick out and Korra slipped them on, wiggling her toes to see how much extra space she had. The tips of the shoes moved as she did so.
"Okay. So all good, right?" Looking to Asami, Korra had almost forgotten she was dressed up to. Easy to do so when she had only seen her in the mirror while her hostess was behind her.
As she held out her arms for judgment, her eyes went both up and down to take Asami in.

"I'd say we're good to go."

Asami stayed close to Korra's side as they were led to a quiet corner of the lowly lit restaurant. They had a private booth all to themselves, even a curtain to draw if they wanted to. But she knew that they weren't quite on that level, no matter how well they were clicking.
She settled onto the circular bench and patted the space next to her.

When they got to the table, the Avatar had to stop and actually look at the huge booth. It looked more comfortable than any couch she'd ever seen. After the patting sound grabbed her attention, Korra became aware that she was gawking and quickly slid in to sit next to Asami; avoiding any looks she may have been getting from the approaching waiter.
When asked what to drink, Korra shrugged and muttered "Water?" and then the harder question came and she answered way too quickly. "I'll have what she's having.
Menu? Korra was almost frightened to even look at it.
no subject
"I guess they don't have places like this on the South Pole, do they?" She tipped her head, friendly amusement in her eyes. Why was it so easy? Asami had been nervous all day, uncertain as to whether this was even a good idea.
But now? Now she was glad she'd taken the chance.

Putting one leg up on the cushion put her dress at an awkward angle, so she brought her knee in to at least lessen it. She was way too used to pants.
"You're used to this kind of stuff?"
no subject
"I have to get away from it all from time to time, but it is nice to get all dressed up. I don't usually have someone my age to actually spend time with at places like this." She gave Korra another warm smile.
no subject
"How do you get away from it all? Besides the pro-bending matches I mean." Picturing Asami having to get away seemed out of place, but she was just stereotyping from what she had seen so far: Rich, elegant, and beautiful.
Really beautiful. It was time for another drink of water, something to cool her throat down.
no subject
She really was something else, wasn't she? Young women never behaved like that in Asami's usual hangouts.
"It depends, really. I'll go for a drive, most of the time. It doesn't really matter where I go, as long as the news reporters aren't looking." It didn't even occur to Asami that she hadn't explicitly mentioned who she was, yet. At least not in terms of her father's fame.
no subject
"Why are they looking for you?" Her first wild guess was because Asami was pretty, but that sheepish thought was pushed aside. Having only met her today, Korra had little to cobble together.

LAFFSOBand was proud of what he had built. But the media was nothing short of obnoxious, along with the assumptions that came with being the daughter of a wildly successful businessman. She glanced away from Korra, one fingertip now carefully running along the rim of her glass as a distraction. She hoped it wouldn't change the other girl's point of view, but...
It always did, for better or for worse. Usually both.
no subject
Of all the things to say, Korra went with the first thing that popped into her head.
"We have a few of those at the South Pole!" And it just got worse... "I mean, I've seen a couple." Time for more water so she could just drown herself. "I didn't know your last name was Sato. No wonder you like to drive."
no subject
"They're pretty widespread, yeah... I test drive new models for my father all the time. I guess that's pretty much all you need to know to get the whole reporter thing, huh?"
no subject
And probably was."That sounds so great! You get to go wherever you want. Was that what you were driving, one of the newer models?" If there was anyone in the world who knew next to nothing about cars, it was this girl.no subject
"The one I was driving today? Yup! That's my personal car." Because the only 'rich people' thing that Asami won't indulge in is a chauffeur.
no subject
"You should see my ride." Said with a secretive smirk. No, she probably didn't look that smooth to anyone that could see either of them.
