A different chance meeting
Practice. Why did practice have to be so early? Joining the Fire Ferrets was a great idea and Korra was having fun; but waking up early was just not something she was looking forward to every morning. Today, it finally caught up to her and she was running late. "Thanks Pema!" Taking a very quick breakfast from what Pema had half-coked, Korra was out the temple in a blur and waterbending her way across the bay to the city. Even with her practice clothing and helmet, she managed it easily enough. The ferry would have taken too long.
After she made her way through the streets on foot, she didn't have time to try and work out the public transportation schedules, Korra was finally able to see the large golden building off in the distance. A boost of energy came from that and she lighted up as she locked her eyes on her destination and ran full tilt into the street. As usual, she ignored the honking and other loud sounds of the city. They would only distract her from her goal
"Almost there!"

Maybe.
Giving half of an apologetic smile, Korra nodded twice. "Yeah. If you don't mind." The dress was nice, her host had told her as much (she could only go off that), but Korra was only comfortable in her usual clothes.
Or none at all."-they didn't throw my clothes away, right?" Serious concern at that very moment.

"I-" Asami paused, at a slight loss for words. "No, of course they didn't," she finished with another small laugh and some raised eyebrows. "They're just holding onto them for you. They should be back in the room when we get there. If they did get thrown away, then someone's going to lose their job." Haha. Businesspeople humor...

"All right, let's go then." She was saving the thanks for the dinner when she and Asami were going to part ways, not in public. Something she was getting the hang of, and was set on learning. Especially with what just happened.
Getting up, Korra dusted off the cake crumbs on her dress while Asami got up so they could go back to the dressing room.

Once there, Asami retrieved the other girl's clothes from a hanger (definitely not thrown away) and held onto them for Korra.
"I can drive you home, if you need a lift. No point in taking a cab if you don't have to."
no subject
"Sure, that'd be great! I just took the ferry to the arena, so I don't really have a ride home." Not the best planning, but Korra didn't want to scare Asami off with Naga.
That had happened a few times in just the first couple of minutes in town.
Korra emerged fully clothed and putting her hair up into a pony tail with the other two hair tubes in her hand. "Any chance of you driving fast?"
She may have sounded a little too hopeful.

"I'm guessing you won't mind too much?"

but those heels. Last thing she wanted to do was break her friend's neck.
"Without running, I mean." What she meant now anyway, and she held the door open for Asami to walk through.
no subject
"Thanks," she said as she passed Korra by in the door. Asami's satomobile was waiting for them, pulled up right by the door. She pulled the key out of her purse and unlocked the doors. This time, it was her turn to hold the door for Korra.

"I wonder if..." She began to tune the radio as Asami sat in, and she managed to find the right frequency. Saxophones were all the rage on the radio, and this one was a slow solo. Driving fast to it might have felt weird, but Korra wasn't one to judge music to driving.
Not when she really couldn't get behind the wheel.
no subject
"Should I take you to the ferry dock at the bay?"
no subject
"No, just the bay." A smile crept across her lips. "I could use a swim."
Actually she was planning to sneak back onto the island since she stayed out a bit later than she meant to, and waterbending was the perfect way to do it. The ferry would be noticed way too easily.

It was pretty impressive, actually.
She drove quickly, but not too fast. She certainly wasn't in any sort of rush for Korra to be gone. Tonight had been something of a rarity in her book, even if it hadn't been so wildly unexpected. A date! With the Avatar! And shortly after running her over, too...
"If you say so!"

One she caught a glimpse of when it was just them at Kwong's.
Unfortunately, she didn't really have anyone to ask for advice on how to handle it. So, it would be an experience. But for now, she just enjoyed the ride to the bay and occasionally stole a glance at Asami while smiling.
"Sorry, it's just- well, taking the ferry isn't the best idea tonight."
no subject
"Why not? Bad service?" The idea of having a curfew was completely foreign to her. She didn't even think of it.
no subject
It took a her a moment to just admit it. "No one knows I was out this late, and I could get in trouble if I get spotted sneaking back in."
no subject
"I'm sorry, Korra, if I'd realized, I would've scheduled earlier." She didn't regret lingering as long as they had, though. What was a slap on the wrist when you'd had a good night out? She had the occasional... disagreement with her father, but it wasn't frequent.
no subject
A good talking to, shouting matches, scoldings, all things Korra had weathered through and sometimes even turned around. Still, she'd sneak in if she could to avoid it.
"I'm old enough to decide when and where I can be." It was more of a right at that point, especially after spending the majority of her life under a watchful eye at the compound.
no subject
"But still, I don't doubt that you can sneak in undetected." She shot Korra a grin as they approached the waterfront.

When Asami rolled the car to a stop, Korra undid her seat belt and was about to open the door when she stopped and looked back. "So, we're still on for next time. Right?"
She was just making sure that she hasn't done or said something wrong earlier that night that may have changed their 'arrangement'.
no subject
And really, she didn't want to.
no subject
Because she really didn't regret a second of it.
"All right! I'll see you then." Hopefully it would be sooner rather than later. She got out of the car and gave Asami a final wave before she turned to make her way to the bay.

She felt... good about this. The slightly nervous energy in her chest, that silly giddiness that came with a first date that had been, for all intents and purposes, perfect.
